Bahamas and Caribbean hit with historic damage from Hurricane Dorian
As Hurricane Dorian makes its way up the East Coast of the United States, it is leaving behind a trail of devastation in the Bahamas. The storm hit Grand Bahama as a Category 5 storm, coming to a virtual standstill over the island.
Now downgraded to a Category 4 storm, favorable weather patterns have pushed Dorian just off the East Coast. However, according to the NOAA projections, the outer bands of the storm are still expected to hit coastal states hard. In preparation, several including Georgia and Virginia have declared states of emergency and mandatory evacuations.
With the death toll at five and climbing, Hurricane Dorian has been a brutal and relentless storm. The 2018 hurricane season saw 15 named storms and 8 hurricanes, bringing over $50 billion in damage.
Groups such as Direct Relief, World Central Kitchen, and the International Medical Corps are working to provide relief to the millions impacted. Take action below to support their vital work.
